food city.

First of all, is it just me, or is 30 Rock not funny anymore? Granted, I've only watched the first 5 episodes of Season One and then two new episodes, but the new ones suck hard.

Second of all, that time that I thought was whizzing by last post? I actually thought today was Friday when I wrote that, which it wasn't. Thus: time not whizzing by, sorry about that.

Thirdly: I think I've found the perfect green chile pork recipe.

But before we delve into those details, I must mention the finer-than-expected dinner we had at Cork tonight, and I'm not even making these dishes up:

Charcuterie Plate
Torchon au Foie Gras, Smoked Antelope Roulade, Elk Pastrami, Valencia Orange Coffee Jam

Butter Poached Beef Tenderloin
White Polenta Fries, Truffle Aioli, Homemade Ketchup, Mushroom Florentine

Japanese Mero (Monkfish)
Sweet Potato and Jalapeño Gnocchi, Snow Peas, Beet Sprouts, Honey Lavender Glaze

The charcuterie plate was uneven (pastrami good, torchon OK, roulade bland bland bland), and the "ketchup" with the beef reminded exactly of Ragu brand spaghetti sauce (Pitts and I both said "Ragu" at the same time). Vinegar, anyone? Or call it something else, blatjang or whatever would change my expectations enough for this to not be weird. Something like a tomato or prune chutney would've been more interesting here.

Other than that, the beef and monkfish were both unusual and delicious, we cleaned our plates. I'd go back.

No, 30 Rock is not nearly as good! I liked it better when Lemon and Jack didn't really like each other, and when there weren't so many guest stars waltzing around and saying their lines too slow. Also, focusing on Liz being both constipated _and_ not liking sex is just too cliched loser-y. I can take jokes about one or the other, but not both.

The last episode of season 2 is _still_ great. How could it have gotten so weak over a summer break?

Oh, yeah, and food...yum. Whatever.

Well I'm certainly glad to hear this from someone whose humor i trust...

The extra tragedy of the new ones sucking is that I've been saying to my mom "oh you have to see 30 Rock, the writing is great", and then she and I watched two new ones last night, the Oprah episode and the Aniston episode, and they were both just really not funny. It wasn't just the distracting guest stars either...the jokes were just obvious and lame. Boo.
