the opposite of fast.

Funny that we talked about fasting this week, we're both cooking like gangbusters. We've got to fill the freezer! In order to hit our weekly Cruciferous Quota, I made Marcella's Red Cabbage and White Bean Soup:

Which is really really good. Kind of a pork-y broth with rosemary, thyme, pancetta, and garlic, and lots of red cabbage. A keeper.

And Mara has been talking about making paneer for about a year now, and it finally happened today. Photos to come.

which Marcella book is that from?
sounds like the prefect thing to make when the Man Who Does Not Like Bean Soup is away.

This is really far from a bean soup, this is a cabbage soup with a few beans in it. Her version has a highly variable pork element: you can include a pile of sausage if you like, or go very light on the pork as I did.

The bit that made this soup great was the rosemary and garlic-infused oil you add at the very end...

It's from The Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking....

Well, also? What made it great was that I cooked the beans with a pig's foot in the pot. Don't tell Mara (she never reads the comments on these posts...or does she? We'll find out)...
